Year of the Golden Pig

The local FCC (Families with Children From China) chapter put on a really nice Chinese New Year celebration dinner. We took a half hour shift at the children's craft table (see our piggie skills to the right...Bobby said my pig looks snobby) while my parents milled around the silent auction tables. The proceeds from the night are going to the Ronald McDonald House and A Heart For China.

While we ate Hunan Mahi Mahi and Terriaki chicken, we chatted with a family at our table who brought their beautiful little girl home about three years ago. And, another couple who in a few short months is bringing toddler twins home.

The evening ended with singing, ribbon dancing, the lion dance, and a lot of dreaming about our future daughter. We're still hanging onto the hope we'll see her picture May or June.

As far as the pictures go...this is all we took! Of course my parents are already used to the grandparents role and took a slew more...so once they share them with me, I'll add more--assuming we're cute in them of course.

Happy Valentine's Day!

All I can say is I am very, very spoiled...and I love it!

Roses at work, daisies at home, candy in a Winnie the Pooh tin, sweet card and sweeter sentiments, perfectly grilled steak, all from one terrific husband.

Blowing kisses to my hubby! Thanks for being my Valentine.

Hair Flashback

How cute is this book?

When I was a little girl I had a book with every kind of braid imaginable. I spent hours doing my hair, my friends' hair, the dog's hair and even my Dad let me put some clips in his hair every now and then.

I'm on the notify list for when this book is back in stock. So what if it's written in Chinese? I'll use the guy method for reading directions and just look at the pictures to figure it out.

Warm and Fuzzy

Thanks for showing me the love! I really must have sounded as at my wits end as I feel these days. One good thing is I'm swamped at work. Isn't it twisted how calmly I can write that being buried in my job is "good" thing?

There was a point in my life when I tortured myself by training for a couple of marathons...all for the sake of personal goal attainment. You know that list of what to accomplish before having kids. Anyway, my training buddy a.k.a. get-your-rump-in-gear-girl always said "slow and steady wins the race". In my case, substitute "finishes the race as a slacker but in style". I'm at that point in this wait. I want to speed up and get to the good part, but I'm trying to just keep my eyes on what is right in front of me, right now.

(Here's a shout out to my gal pal Fionnuala! Bet you didn't think I was listening during those 5am runs so many moons ago.)

Thanks again for keeping me company during this stretch.

Eye of the Tiger

Year of the Tiger
Tiger people are sensitive, given to deep thinking, capable of great sympathy. They can be extremely short-tempered, however. (Can I get an amen?) Other people have great respect for them, but sometimes tiger people come into conflict with older people or those in authority. sometimes Tiger people cannot make up their minds, which can result in a poor, hasty decision or a sound decision arrived at too late. (This reminds me of lunchtime decisions.) They are suspicious of others, but they are courageous and powerful. (Hear me ROAR.) Tigers are most compatible with Horses, Dragons, and Dogs

Okay, so you know me...does this description fit? At least I'm happy to be compatible with Dogs, as we suspect Kayla was born this past year. Maybe those inevitable teen years won't be so bad after all. Or forget the teens, what about the terrible two's that will be here before we know it. Yikes! I'm getting nervous again.

Now here's Bobby--
People born in the Year of the Ox are patient, speak little, and inspire confidence in others. They tend, however, to be eccentric, and bigoted, and they anger easily. They have fierce tempers and although they speak little, when they do they are quite eloquent. Ox people are mentally and physically alert. Generally easy-going, they can be remarkably stubborn, and they hate to fail or be opposed. They are most compatible with Snake, Rooster, and Rat people.

He's not most compatible with either of us. Odd man out again as usual. Might as well get used to it with a house full of women.

Referrals this last batch went through 10/13. The end of the wait IS in sight for us, but it just went out another month. I think a referral at the end of May or June is possible...of course, it could go out to July or August, but I'm not ready to go there just yet. I hope you bunch of lurkers are sending positive thoughts and prayers our way!

(Did I just hear an echo? Does that mean nobody is even lurking on this sad excuse of a blog anymore? Say it isn't so! I promise, I'll start writing about my favorite TV shows soon...something to keep the vast expanse of time between posts down to a minimum. Come back! Please? Don't make me wait alone. hehehe...pathetic enough?)
